iDEAL records record number of online payments Black Friday
Discount week continues with 5.12 million online transactions on Cyber Monday
AMSTERDAM, 28 November 2023 - Payment service iDEAL recorded a record number of transactions for the eighth year in a row on Black Friday, the Friday after Thanksgiving when consumers take advantage of high discounts. iDEAL processed 7.13 million online transactions on Friday 24 November with over 333 transactions per second at the peak.
Whereas Black Friday was originally meant to be one day of high discounts on electronics in particular, Black Friday anno 2023 extends much further. iDEAL has seen significantly more transactions in the seven days preceding Black Friday for four years in a row.
Daniel van Delft, CEO of Currence iDEAL: "We are now talking about Black Friday week. The numbers of transactions climb steadily in the week leading up to Black Friday and remain higher than average until Cyber Monday. We explain the high numbers of online transactions we record every day by the fact that we all shop online more every year. The supply is also much greater. Black Friday has long since ceased to be about just electronics but everything from white goods to games and video is offered at substantial discounts."
